James Dean Wants His Eyeglasses Back
A new breed in luxury has emerged with the launch of Cult Eyewear, a high-end, optical Brand, focused on recreating the most iconic eyewear designs of the 20th Century.
CLIFFSIDE PARK, NJ – After two years of brand creation, development and research, Cult Eyewear has finally opened its “online” doors with their official brand launch. At midnight on Sunday, December 14th, www.cultframes.com went live, and with it, the brand ushers in a bit of vintage, a pinch of old Hollywood and a whole lot of beauty. This isn’t your run of the mill, retro frames company. Cult Eyewear’s mission is to bring back to life long lost frames of the past, with one major difference: the Devil is 100%, unequivocally, in the details.
There are “vintage” style eyewear companies as far as the eye can see, but what they lack, and what Cult embraces, is the passion for the past. Steven Rosini, Founder & President of Cult Eyewear, explains:
“Everyone tries to make vintage inspired frames, but no one gets it right. There is a reason why furniture from 60, 70 or even 100 years ago is so important and so beloved and sought after. It boils down to one, cliché line – they just don’t make them like they used to. Years ago, optical companies and manufacturers produced beautifully designed frames, with curves and colors that truly made them works of art. Today, most companies produce lackluster carbon copies of these designs, but they never get into the thick of it. They don’t analyze the smallest of details. They choose inferior materials, or worse, they let the manufacturer lead the decision making process of the frame’s design. Cult Eyewear lives for the details and we control all of the design, and every millimeter that goes into each handmade frame. It’s bordering on obsession. We do not release and produce anything until we get all of the details right and we only make frames in small batches. If that means it takes two years to make a frame and release it, well…no one said perfection came easy.”
Cult Eyewear has released their first and what they deem their flagship frame, the Fairmount. The frame is inspired by one of the 20th Centuries most iconic Hollywood actors, James Dean. The name, like all of the frames they will be releasing, derives from the hometown of their iconic muses. So in this instance, Fairmount, Indiana, the boyhood home of James Dean, serves as the first in what is planned to be a long line of released eyewear from Cult in the years to come. Five color were hand picked for the frame’s final production, with a sixth Limited Edition color being released as well.
Being a life long James Dean fan himself, the President of Cult Eyewear knows this frame like the back of his hand, explaining, “Every detail, every nuance of the original has been accounted for. In the end, the final product is a strikingly beautiful frame that is so timeless; both men and women can easily wear it. This frame was the brainchild of launching Cult Eyewear actually. Like so many others, all over the world, I wanted the frame James Dean wore for myself. Unfortunately, after years of searching, my extensive research led me to the conclusion, that the original frame he famously wore was from a brand long since extinct in the eyewear world, and the frame no longer exists. Well, that is until now.”
At present, all Cult Eyewear frames can be found exclusively at their website, however, the company has plans to launch in select boutiques around the world as their collection grows. The Fairmount is the first frame released by Cult Eyewear but they already have five other designs in the queue for release over the next few years, all influenced and made famous by icons or “Cult” figures of the last century. Though release dates can’t be expected at Cult Eyewear, due to the intense attention to detail of its frames, perhaps their company slogan says it best for what can:
HAND-CRAFTED. ICONIC. VINTAGE INSPIRED.
